Mission
Responsibilities:
You will operate within the R&D department of BU Salmonids and you will be based in the Netherlands to support breeding programs operated around the world. The support includes planning, coordination, and execution of routine breeding program tasks such as data management, data analysis, breeding value estimation and selection, as well as implementing and maintaining breeding program database infrastructure and operating protocols. The position also includes research projects and collaboration with the BU Shrimp R&D team.
The position requires knowledge of aquaculture production, data management, quantitative genetic analysis, programming, and breeding program design. You will liaise closely with local breeding program managers, geneticists, senior management and with customers. There is close cooperation with the central Hendrix Genetics Research and Technology Centre for development of technology. The role requires regular international travel, including medium long stays.
Key Accountabilities:
- Planning, coordination, and execution of breeding program activities related to data management, data analysis, breeding value estimation and selections
- Implementing and maintaining breeding program database infrastructure and operating protocols
- Running research projects including development of genetic models, estimation of genetic parameters, index development
- Maintaining and developing knowledge in quantitative genetics, genomics and statistics
- Advise the business unit in the optimization of breeding programs and production
Profile

- An MSc or PhD in animal breeding is preferable, or similar with experience in commercial breeding programs.
- Strong in programming skills in R software, knowledge on Databricks desirable.
