Mission
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversee the health and welfare of breeder flocks in coordination with the production teams across PA, VA, NE, IA, OR, and any future locations.
• Collaborate closely with fellow staff veterinarians to balance workload, coordinate projects, and align responsibilities, supported by a weekly veterinary Teams call with the full team and the General Manager.
• Ensure proper implementation of the company’s Poultry Health, Biosecurity, and NPIP monitoring programs across all breeder and hatchery operations.
• Conduct routine site visits to hatcheries and farms to evaluate bird health, verify compliance with standards, and recommend corrective actions when needed.
• Lead and oversee NPIP compliance along with all other required qualifications and certifications related to bird health and program standards.
• Perform disease diagnostics in both laboratory and field settings, including necropsy, sampling, and interpretation of findings to support timely decision making.
• Coordinate, review, and interpret flock titer results to support vaccination program performance and overall flock health monitoring.
• Coordinate with the Production Management Specialist to plan flock wellness postings and support customer-facing poultry health initiatives, collaborating with customers and allied industry partners when practical.
• Review and recommend improvements to serology, bacteriology, and tissue sampling processes, including analysis, collection, submission, testing, and reporting. (This may include oversight of in-house laboratory activities.)
• Develop and distribute periodic technical bulletins for internal teams, external sales, and customer use, ensuring information is clear, timely, and relevant.
• Build strong working relationships and leverage available resources including universities, state and federal departments, industry associations, and allied suppliers—to maximize effectiveness and support continuous improvement in poultry health.
Additional Duties:
• Collaborate on and support research initiatives led by Hendrix ISA aimed at improving company operations and enhancing bird health and performance.
• Maintain oversight of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring timely updates and revisions are communicated and implemented across teams.
• Monitor and track HPAI cases to ensure production teams are informed of any developments that may impact Hendrix ISA operations
• Serve as the liaison to Hendrix NA and cultivate a collaborative relationship with their veterinary team to support joint health programs and projects as needed.
• Attend required industry conferences, including IPPE, PEAK, AAAP, and the NPIP Biennial Conference.
Profile
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to use the EMRS platform for HPAI‑related movement reporting and compliance.
• Ability to efficiently utilize the VEHCS export system to support international export requirements.
• A strong sense of ethical behavior and concern for animal welfare.
• Flexibility to travel for extended periods of time, domestically and internationally. (50% on average)
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and stay organized.
• Strong ability to clearly communicate verbally, in written correspondence, and deliver presentations in English.
• Great interpersonal skills to deal with and manage customer communications and internal communications.
• A strong desire to grow in the management team of Hendrix-ISA.
Education and Experience:
• At minimum, veterinary degree DVM or VMD from an accredited program. Poultry experience preferred but not required.
• Eligible to obtain license to practice veterinary medicine and USDA category II accreditation in PA, VA, NE, IA, and OR.
