Your Role

Hendrix Genetics is a primary breeder and commercial distribution company supplying poults and eggs to customers globally. Based in South Dakota, the Staff Veterinarian provides strategic veterinary leadership and hands-on technical support to USA operations, while contributing as an active member of both the North American and global veterinary service groups. This role is accountable for leading, strengthening, and continuously improving flock health and welfare programs, supporting the company’s Quality Assurance program, and partnering closely with farm, hatchery, laboratory, logistics, and operational teams to ensure practical, consistent, and effective execution in the field. The Staff Veterinarian also serves as a key technical representative and liaison with external regulatory agencies, diagnostic laboratories, industry associations, and customers. As a visible representative of Hendrix Genetics, this position contributes veterinary expertise at industry meetings, associations, and conferences, while delivering responsive, solutions-focused communication and support to internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive veterinary services and technical support for U.S. based operations (turkeys), including owned facilities and contract partner locations

  • Lead the implementation, execution, monitoring, and continuous improvement of company health programs to support flock performance, welfare, and operational consistency

  • Partner closely with farm, hatchery, laboratory, transportation, logistics, and operational leaders to ensure veterinary programs are practical, understood, and effectively executed in the field

  • Lead or contribute to veterinary-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives, including sustainability, animal welfare, antibiotic stewardship, disease prevention, and operational best practices

  • Identify health risks, recommend practical solutions, and drive effective execution of health initiatives in collaboration with operational teams and veterinary colleagues

  • Develop and deliver training, guidance, and coaching for operational staff and contract partners to strengthen understanding, consistency, and compliance with veterinary, welfare, and biosecurity programs.

  • Provide high-quality technical service and responsive veterinary support to company clients across the United States, as required, with a focus on practical solutions and clear communication

  • Support and facilitate export programs, including routine flock inspections, review of health certification requirements, coordination with government representatives, and maintenance of strong regulatory relationships

  • Serve as the primary veterinary contact and technical liaison with U.S. state and federal government agencies, maintaining effective working relationships and supporting regulatory compliance

  • Provide active leadership and technical support for Quality Assurance, Animal Welfare, Biosecurity, and third-party audit activities, ensuring readiness, compliance, and timely follow-up on corrective actions

  • Collaborate with the business unit veterinary group to strengthen and continuously improve overall flock health and performance, vaccination programs and preventive health strategies, biosecurity standards, practices, and compliance, disease prevention, diagnostics, treatment protocols, and flock health decision-making, animal welfare, etc.

Profil

  • Licensed DVM, licensed (or able to be licensed) in Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska
  • 3 - 5 years of practical veterinary experience (poultry experience is considered a asset)
  • Strong working knowledge of poultry health, flock management, disease prevention, diagnostics, and preventative medicine practices
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, export health certification, and government agency interactions related to poultry production
  • Sound knowledge of animal welfare principles, audit expectations, compliance requirements, and continuous improvement practices
  • Practical understanding of agri-business biosecurity standards, risk mitigation practices, and field-level implementation across owned and contract operations
  • Customer focused (internally and externally)
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, critical thinking, and proactive problem-solving to identify solutions and drive timely decisions
  • Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize, plan, and manage competing operational demands effectively
  • Works effectively with diverse cultures, functions, and organizational levels, fostering collaboration and trust
  • Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence across teams
  • Valid passport with the ability for occasional travel out of country and regularly within the US to operational sites
